Ingredients

Chilean Murtado

200 grams of Murtas

1 kilogram of Sugar

1 liter of Water

200 milliliters of Aguardiente (spirits)

2 Mint leaves or spearmint

Preparation

Step 1 : Wash the murtas carefully without breaking them and remove the stems.

Step 2 : Place the washed murtas and the spirits in a clean bottle. Gently swirl it. Cover and let it rest for 7 days or until the murtas turn a pale color.

Step 3 : After the maceration time, pour the liquid into a large pot or pan, add the water and sugar, bring to a boil over high heat for 10 minutes, stirring constantly until a syrup forms.

Step 4 : Add the mint leaves or spearmint (optional).

Step 5 : Let it cool down and then add it back to the bottle where it was macerated. Seal it.

Step 6 : Let it macerate for another 2 or 3 days.

Step 7 : After this time, the murtado is ready.

Step 8 : It is a strong drink that you can combine with fruits or simply filter and enjoy pure.
